We missed the 1st place spot by 2 points.  All of our guys did a great job!  We finished ahead of all other Idaho BJJ teams.  West Side BJJ out of Utah showed up with a great team and won.  Congrats to West Side BJJ.  An Honorable Mention goes out to Keith Owen BJJ (last years winners).  They competed great and were great sportsmen!  We will not rest till the next one.  We will come with more competitors next time.  We are proud of our competiton in the Northwest.  We enjoy the firendly rivalry!

Thanks to Tren Long for organizing the NWSC event.  The ONLY BJJ Tournament it IDAHO!

Sunday, April 25th, 2010

Saturday, April 24th was the Northwest Submission Challenge.  We had a lot of guys compete.  It turned out to be a great tournament.  153 competitors overall.  It is the BIGGEST grappling tournament to date in Idaho.

Alliance did great!  We had a lot of guys on the medal stand.  Too many to single out.  It was great!!!  I am very proud of all of my guys that competed.  A big thanks to Brad, Ryan and Louie for helping to share the coaching responsibilities.  There were 3 mats going and I couldn’t be every where at once.  Thanks you guys!

Here are a couple of pics from the days event…  Go Alliance!!!

UFC 112 fight predictions

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

I don’t claim to be MMA super fan.  I love watching the sport.  I am really looking forward to UFC 112 in the UAE.  The card is stacked with really talented Jiu Jitsu fighters.  I will stick my neck out and make some predictions on the “main card.”

Anderson Silva Vs. Demian Maia

Two really good fighters.  Both are black belts in BJJ.  However Demian is a multiple time BJJ World Champ.  Anderson is probably the best MMA fighter in the world.  He has the advantage in the stand up.  My pick for this one is Anderson Silva…

BJ Penn Vs. Frankie Edgar

BJ Penn has been unstoppable in the 155lb weight class for a couple of years.  His conditioning and weight training is second to none.  I don’t see how Frankie Edgar will be able to utilize the ground and pound that he is good at against BJ.  I pick BJ.

Renzo Gracie Vs. Matt Hughes

Renzo is an elite BJJ black belt.  He has good hands and cardio.  Renzo is used to fighting in Japan in the ring, not the cage.  Renzo is 43 to Matts’ 36.  Renzo has never really been an MMA Champion like Matt Hughes.  Matt has a great take-downs and he is also well versed in BJJ.  I hate to say it but I think Matt Hughes will continue to be the “Gracie Killer” of the MidWest!  I pick Matt Hughes…
