Houston, TX Brown Belt visits Alliance Boise. Read what he has to say.

Friday, July 9th, 2010

“I would just like to leave a comment about my recent private lesson with Mitch while vacationing in Boise. My name is Don Mouser, I have been training BJJ since 1999 and am currently a four stripe Brown Belt. I was thoroughly impressed by Mitch’s ability to teach and roll. He is one of the best teachers I have personally ever trained with. His willingness to take the time to break down the details of each move was impressive to say least. Equally as impressive was his willingness to share his BJJ game as if he were an ‘open book’. I would certainly recommend that anyone fortunate enough to live in the Boise area train with Mitch. I would also recommend that anyone traveling or vacationing in Boise take a private with him, believe me, you won’t regret it.”

Thanks Don!!!!

“The year couldn’t be better for Master Romero Jacaré. The leader of Alliance and producer of countless black belts saw his team win the Jiu-Jitsu World Championship and was even promoted to red-and-black belt by the IBJJF.

The master left Atlanta, Georgia, for a brief visit to his Alliance branches in Brazil. This Wednesday Jacaré was at Alliance Leblon, in Rio de Janeiro, where he made a speech and was applauded by the students of Alexandre Paiva.”

Our Professor in GracieMag!

Our Professor speaks with GracieMag about the up coming Masters Championship in Brazil.

ROMERO~1

“When I compete I always go in to win, there’s no other way. But there’s something different about the International Masters: being able to see a gang that’s been competing for a long time. So there’s nostalgia to it. There’s still the desire to compete and win, but we see folks who had disappeared competing again and that’s really cool. And folks go there to watch those people,” he remarks to GRACIEMAG.com.

UFC 112 fight predictions

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

I don’t claim to be MMA super fan.  I love watching the sport.  I am really looking forward to UFC 112 in the UAE.  The card is stacked with really talented Jiu Jitsu fighters.  I will stick my neck out and make some predictions on the “main card.”

Anderson Silva Vs. Demian Maia

Two really good fighters.  Both are black belts in BJJ.  However Demian is a multiple time BJJ World Champ.  Anderson is probably the best MMA fighter in the world.  He has the advantage in the stand up.  My pick for this one is Anderson Silva…

BJ Penn Vs. Frankie Edgar

BJ Penn has been unstoppable in the 155lb weight class for a couple of years.  His conditioning and weight training is second to none.  I don’t see how Frankie Edgar will be able to utilize the ground and pound that he is good at against BJ.  I pick BJ.

Renzo Gracie Vs. Matt Hughes

Renzo is an elite BJJ black belt.  He has good hands and cardio.  Renzo is used to fighting in Japan in the ring, not the cage.  Renzo is 43 to Matts’ 36.  Renzo has never really been an MMA Champion like Matt Hughes.  Matt has a great take-downs and he is also well versed in BJJ.  I hate to say it but I think Matt Hughes will continue to be the “Gracie Killer” of the MidWest!  I pick Matt Hughes…

4 archetypes of a fighter

Friday, March 26th, 2010

There are 4 archetypes that exist in every and all fight/competition.  It is important to recognize what they are first so we can form our identity as a competitor.  Next, once we have recognized them then we can understand how to defeat them…

First.  What is a archetype?  Wikiepedia says.  An archetype (pronounced /??rk?ta?p/) is an original model of a person, ideal example, or a prototype upon which others are copied, patterned, or emulated; a symbol universally recognized by all. In psychology, an archetype is a model of a person, personality, or behavior.

The 4 archetypes are as follows.

1)  Aggressive

2)  Deffensive

3)  Interceptive

4)  Deceptive

It is important to understand that one single competitor can exibit all 4 or just one of these archetypes during a competition.

I will be spending more time in depth on each of these for archetypes in my blogs to come.  The first archetype that I will cover is Aggressive.  Stay tuned!!!
