Professor Coats coaches in the UFC!!!

January 24th, 2012

Mike-Pyle-Zuffa

Professor Coats had the pleasure of being called for the Mike Pyle fight camp.  Mike was preparing for UFC 142 in Brazil.  Professor Coats was the Jiu Jitsu Coach for the 7 week camp which was held in Las Vegas at Randy Couture’s gym.  Along with coaching, Coats was also a training partner for Pyle.

Professor Coats got his ticket and whole trip paid for by Pyle’s sponsors, being able to travel to Brazil with the fighter and help him with his last week of prep for the fight.  It was an amazing experience from start to finish.

Pyle fought Ricardo Funch, the fight was televised on FX and pay per view.  Mike Pyle scored a first round 1:22 TKO in the first round!!!  Pyle was the only American to win on the UFC 142 Brazil fight card.

Professor Coats was truly honored to be able to coach such a high level athlete and help him get the “W” in Brazil.  Great Job Mike Pyle!!!

Phase 1 Seminar, Alexandre Paiva 5th degree black belt

November 21st, 2011

November 11th, 2011:

Our Academy was very lucky to have Master Alexandre Paiva conduct a 2 hour seminar that was geared towards the basics.  Alliance Jiu Jitsu of Boise has a big student base so it was necessary to have a seminar for our beginners, open to Men and Women.  Our Phase 1 class is designed for the 0-6 month student.  The curriculum is basic and broken down into 25 lessons.  The seminar on the 11th was designed to help the student grasp the fundamentals meanwhile showing some options to common positions.  It was sold out!

11 students and Professor Coats from Team Alliance Jiu Jitsu of Boise traveled to Brazil this summer to train and compete in Rio De Janeiro.  They traveled to make the pilgrimidge that all Jiu Jitsu efficianados should make at least once in their lifetime.

Through Professor Coats’ vast contacts in Brazil he was able to make this a wonderful experience for his students to learn about the origins of Jiu Jitsu and be immersed in the culture that is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.  All of the students were able to train with countless black belts and World Champions, training 3 times a day with Master Alexandre”Gigi”Paiva in his Academy.  The Boise crew was even granted access to have a personal class every day at 10am with Master Paiva showing details that would help them in competitions…  This was a very special and rare opportunity that not many have have access to.  Professor Coats blazed the trail years ago and his students got to study Jiu Jitsu at the source.

At the end of the trip 6 competitors from Alliance Boise fought in the Masters World Championships.  3 competitors took home the Silver medal.  This is almost unheard of, for foreigners to medal in Brazil…  It speaks volumes to their training and dedication.

Good Job Team Alliance of Boise!!!

Idaho Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Instructor Wins Gold at American Cup

Idaho Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Instructor Wins Gold at American Cup

San Jose, California – April 30th, 2011 – There is an Oasis of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, BJJ, nestled in the Rocky Mountains.  Boise, Idaho’s Team ‘Alliance Jiu Jitsu’ is making a name for itself.

“Everywhere my students compete I get positive feedback from opponents and spectators alike!” says Mitch Coats, Black Belt Instructor and owner of Boise’s ‘Alliance Jiu Jitsu’. “It was time for me to give back to my students,  they have represented me well and it has been my desire to compete in their honor.”

Mitch Coats has been training and competing in BJJ since 2003.  He has dedicated the last two years to creating a strong ‘family’ of students.  “I want to build a Mecca of grappling and that requires all of us working in the same direction, we are building relationships as much as a Team and in that atmosphere our training in BJJ has excelled.  Each student makes the path of those to follow easier to endure”

Coats is the only American Black Belt under Alexandre ‘Gigi’ Paiva.  Alexandre is a co-founder of the World Champion Team Alliance, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where Coats trained.  Upon receiving his Black Belt, Coats began focussing on other people.  Driven to help others recognize their own strength and winning attitudes in life.  He feels BJJ is a way of life, each person benefits in individual ways.  For some it is losing weight, others friendship, and some need competition, although it is not required of his students to compete, “they perform very well because of the family we are creating.  Our instruction is battle tested and we prepare each other to perform on the highest levels.”

Alliance of Boise won the Adult Team Award in Boise, Idaho at the Northwest Submission Challenge three weeks ago in a landslide, almost scoring twice as many points as the second place team.  On that note Coats travelled to the American Cup in San Jose, California, his desire to lead from the front, he put his own reputation on the line Competing in the Masters Black Belt Division at one of the top five tournaments in United States.  There in honor of his students Mitch Coats won Gold.

Mitch Coats is taking that momentum and building a new elite academy located at 201 N. Maple Grove  Suite 120, Boise, ID 83704.  His website is www.jiujitsuboise.com
